The Big Weave Project

The Big Weave Project
14th Aug 2024

Things are moving on quickly for the Big Weave. All year groups are now half-way through their own individual weavings which are to be attached to the larger one and in art lessons children are enjoying coming out and working on the carpet on the panels for the large woven hanging.

Children are also learning about the various country’s styles of weaving with Y1 learning about English Medieval weavers, Y2 learning about Indonesian weaving, Y3 finding out about weaving in Pakistan, Y4 learning about weaving patterns in Belarus a connection with the artist Marc Chagall they did earlier in the year.

Y5 are exploring the weaving of the Huguenots from France and Y6 are learning about tartans, a link to the play Macbeth that they have been studying. The Den and Pre-School are joining in too with PreSchool using colourful African fabric as their chosen textile for weaving. I am looking forward to seeing the children’s work when completed.
